MOCK TRIAL

For the past five years, I have had the great honor of coaching the Mission Oak High School Mock Trial team, first as an assistant coach, and then, for the last three years, as the head coach.  I have worked hard to instill a strong work ethic and team culture in the students.  Whether it be through group bonding lunches and games or the ever-present coffee and snacks available at practice, I have learned over time the importance of building a team culture through making practice first and foremost a place students want to be.  If students want to be there, they will work hard.  And, in working hard and having fun, one will be in a position to win.  To ready the team to give its best showing in competition, trips and scrimmages are held so that students may practice their arguments against other schools in real time.  In the process, students learn valuable legal skills and concepts ranging from types of argument and questioning of witnesses to making objections and trial process.  The life lessons and memories make it all worth it!
